myPhone A898 – Specs Review: Dual Core, 4.3-inch Android ICS

After its treat with the Android Phone Trade-in Madness promo, MyPhone teases its facebook fans with a new, yet unannounced Android smartphone. Well, chances are strong that it will be the myPhone A898.

I had tried to look for a phone with the said clues as posted on myPhone’s facebook page and it lead me  on finding out about the myPhone A898. Honestly, I am a bit thrilled with the specs. I can clearly say that it has somehow an edge over my previously reviewed China phone; ZOPO ZP100.

Why? Because this phone has the same 4.3-inches IPS screen, not looking about the display quality but it has a dual-core MT6577 CPU chipset, which is obviously better and faster.

So let’s take its specs for a review.

myPhone A898 Review

The myPhone A898 sports a MT6577 dual-core CPU, clocked at 1GHz speed and paired with a PowerVR SGX531 GPU. With my experience on the ZOPO ZP100′s MT6575 chipset, which is older than this MT6577 that the myPhone A898 has; its already an impressively fast phone for HD gaming and high-quality multimedia playback, so what more with this new one?

It runs on Android 4.0.4 ICS out of the box, equipped with myPhone’s TINNO UI. RAM isn’t specified but I’m guessing that it will just fall down on 512MB. Not bad though as based on my experience, its pretty much more than enough.

Stated ROM is 4GB which for you to expect a 2.5GB of usable internal storage memory which is still expandable with an external SD card with max support of up to 32GB.

It has a 4.3-inches screen, the material is IPS so expect that every viewing angles are good. The display resolution is WVGA, a 800×480 pixels which is not pretty much bad at all for a 4.3″ screen.

It has a 5.0 megapixels main snapper, partnered with that is a 0.3 MP front-camera which can support video calls with Yahoo or Skype. Good to know that it has AF and LED flash.

Not sure if its dual-SIM but since its a China phone, just like what we always review, its a no surprise. Good to know that it has 3G support, as the 2100MHz frequency band is supported so no doubt here if it has 3G/HSDPA.

Battery is a 1800mAh one, not much not too little for an Android ICS device. Unlike the mainstream of earlier Android phones having only > 1600mAh battery rating which is a real downer. But this myPhone A898′s battery seems decent enough.

Other features are:

  • Wi-Fi
  • Bluetooth
  • FM Radio
  • Sensors
  • TV-out support (not sure if its HDMI support)
  • USB OTG support (pretty nifty feature for an Android device)

The myPhone A898 is only available on black color, but I’m guessing that there will be a white variant later. If there will be available accessories for this one to accompany its sales debut, this might be a hit.

Price

Right now, the price isn’t specified yet but you can see on the poster above that its a 4-digit. So we can guess that it will just fall on the price tag of Php8k-9k plus, which is pretty much reasonable.

Verdict

Im glad that myPhone is bringing the good stuff from China here in the Philippines. Chances are, you already had stumbled on my other blog that discusses about China phones that have good specs and really good price tags. With that interest of mine, I know that this new phone from myPhone is a great treat for us, as I always wanted those latest China phones to be available here locally.

With that, I can say that it can be considered a better phone than the Cherry Mobile W900 Dragon phone in terms of specs, yet almost same price tag or the Lenovo P700i price-wise, which has higher price. (sells for above Php10k, same MT6577 CPU)

So guys, are you planning to get one?

I just wish that myPhone could possibly give us a unit once its out so we can do our hands-on and in-depth review of this myPhone A898.
