So there was this Pringles promotion we spotted months ago, buy 2 and get a free party speaker.
It was April of this year when we noticed that those Pringles were on different packaging so we gave it a shot, then 25 pesos and 3 months later, the free speaker arrived. We first thought that the free speaker was inside the Pringles package only to find out that there was just a code that you have to redeem from Pringles promo website. The promotion already ended. I paid 25 pesos via Paypal (to Fast Marketing General Manpower Services) and the package was delivered on our doorsteps by the local postman for free.
Sent via EMS, originating from QC, I was surprised our local postman didn’t ask any payment for this delivery (which he do every time, maybe because it was just a domestic package? #unsure).
The tiny box only contains the speaker and a manual.
Well, this could be just OEM but the manual is kind enough to give us the specs of this speaker.
Pringles Speaker Specifications:
- Speaker Type: 52mm Multimedia Speaker
- Speaker Impedance: 3ohm
- Audio Line in: 3.5mm Stereo Mini Plug
- Output Power: 3 watts (rated)
- Frequency Response: 150-20kHz
- Power Indicator: LED
- Battery: 3xAAA/R03 size, DC1.5V
- Model Number: 140058-KEL001
It is small, compact, and not too heavy.
A 3.5mm jack for audio line in has its own sheath within the body of the tiny speaker. This could help on cable management when the gadget isn’t in use.
Underneath is the battery compartment, that has the covering latch screwed with a flat one.
The screw is somehow long and frequent un-screwing of this one could be a chore since this speaker doesn’t have its own built-in battery that can be charged via a USB cable. However, placing back the latch without the screw still feels firm that it wont fell off on its own.
Here’s how it looks on the side.
I still haven’t had the time to test how well it consumes battery power, but to save money I recommend using a rechargeable battery for this one if you plan to constantly use this speaker.
The button on its top face is the power button. A LED light glows to indicate that it is powered on.
It has a tight fight with the Pringles can. Obviously because it was originally designed for it. Shaking the can with the speaker on top, it wont wobble or wiggle even just a bit.
Looks nice. Although on its promotional images, the speaker doesn’t overlap too much with the circumference of the cylinder like a mushroom head. It looks nicer if it is really like that on this actual product.
So about the speaker performance.
This isn’t something special but I can say that it sounds better compared to those cheap mp3 USB music players with speakers that you can see in local tiangge markets (those that looks like a softdrink in can, cup noodles, etc). The sound output is amplified while maintaining the clarity, crisp and wholeness of the audio. I really don’t know how to say but, “malakas yung output, buo yung bass nya, hindi tunog lata kahit itodo yung volume”.
Other than the difference on its appearance compared to the promotional images, and not having a built-in battery that can be recharged via USB, its all good since this is just a promotional freebie.
Free stuff that is a no-hassle to get? This Pringles party speaker is one of those. Thanks Pringles, thanks FGMS Inc.
