KATA iDroid S Review: Hands-on with the Android-iPhone from Owtel

Passing by a booth of Owtel in SM Megamall’s Cyberzone, the iDroid S caught my attention. You might remember, we had reviewed and featured here another product from Owtel store, the KATA Maya All-in-one PC. Now, they have a variety of new products, and this iDroid S is the subject of today’s feature.

Short, the iDroid S is simply an Android phone, showcasing a UI that resembles an iPhone. No wonder it is called iDroid S as its shape simple reminds me of the circular iPhone 3GS.

I don’t have much time to deeply look on the specs of this iDroid S, but here’s a short run down of its specs:

Kata iDroid S specs:

  • 1GHz CPU
  • Android 2.3 OS
  • Dual SIM
  • Quad-band GSM+3G
  • Wi-Fi
  • 4GB Internal memory
  • 4.0” display (480×800 pixels)
  • 5.0MP main camera / 0.3MP front (supports Skype video calling)

Judging from these laid out information, I guess it’s a MT6575 single core CPU phone, as it was said to support Skype and only has 5.0 megapixels rear camera. Also the stated 4GB internal memory is common to the kinds of phones with this chipset. The RAM isn’t mentioned on their poster/ad so we can assume it that it falls within 256MB or 512MB maybe.

The pretty and kind saleslady told me that more detailed information about the iDroid S is available on their website but I cannot find any. However, she’s kind enough to let us play with the device for a short moment.

The Kata iDroid S is being sold for Php6,999. Same price as the dual-core 4.3-inch myPhone A878 (add just Php500 and you can get a myPhone A898 instead). KATA or Owtel isn’t that popular enough but they have other seemingly good stuff on their stalls which are cheaply priced. They also have mini tablets and tablets; we’ll try to cover that up next time.

I tried to play Temple Run, it goes smoothly. Makes me think its a MT6575 1GHz. No lags, gyro sensors works fine.

I just wish we can tell you guys’ more of this device but that’s pretty much about it. Maybe they will put down its pricing sooner or later when they notice how it matches against the other Android ICS phones which is offered by the local market competitors.
