Sony Xperia Sola: Short hands-on review

Hi guys! I managed to make a short hands-on of the new Sony Xperia Sola. Its a new Xperia phone from Sony and isn’t officially released yet on the local market. Thanks to my blogger friend, Florencio Jusay for letting me play with his new phone when we had met again on the recent iBlog8 event.

Here’s some of the photos of the Sony Xperia Sola I did took on that day:

Sony Xperia Sola Review & Hands-on

The Sony Xperia Sola is one of the Sony NXT series alongside with the Sony Xperia P, S, and U. Its an android phone, not running on ICS but on 2.3.7.

First impression? It is very lightweight. Very easy to grip. Somehow gives me a feeling that its a small phone. But not actually on its 3.7″ display. Its perfect for one-hand operation.

Here’s the Sola’s views on different angles:

I really cant believe how this phone weighs that lightly. It doesnt gives a “plastic-ky” feel as well. Thumbs up for its design, simple yet elegant.

Here’s some of its screen snaps. The idle and menu screens. Well, its just Sony’s UI on its current Android phone rosters.

We also tried playing mobile movies with average converted quality and guess what, it plays on its native player with no stutters and of just clear quality.

The Sony Xperia Sola is clocked at 1GHz. With that, no lags on its UI scrolls and navigation. Everything is smooth, as well as running and multi-tasking some apps.

I also tried to play Temple Run on it. Guess again, it did run smoothly! No lags at all. Unlike other Android phones running Temple Run game.

Here’s some of the Sony Xperia Sola key specs:

  • OS: Android (2.3.7)
  • 3.70 inches, 480 x 854, 265 ppi, TFT, Capacitive, Scratch-resistant glass
  • ST-Ericsson NovaThor U8500
  • Dual core, 1000 MHz
  • GPU
  • 512 MB RAM / 8000 MB (SD card up to 32 GB)
  • NFC
  • 1320 mAh

If you noticed it, the 8GB internal memory is promising as well!

I guess that wraps up this short hands-on review. We just got a limited time that day. But that short time is indeed a nice experience with the Sony Xperia Sola already. I wish I could play with this one for a longer time so I could make a more comprehensive review.

My friend said that he just won it on a raffle from an event by Sony. What a lucky guy! Here’s his unboxing video, more info on this link.

This Sony Xperia Sola is said to be priced at Php17,000 here in the Philippines.   Posted on Sony Mobile PH’s facebook fan page few days ago, that it will be available the next week. It might be 1st quarter of June.
