HDC Galaxy i9300 S3+ Specs Review: MTK6577 Samsung Galaxy S3 China Clone from FastCardTech

You might remember the post I made when I got the excitement on seeing the upcoming release of the Samsung Galaxy S3 clone phone from China. Some of my assumptions on the specs were wrong. There has been a couple of variations and updates on the Samsung Galaxy SIII knock-off, but let’s check out this seemingly best and latest S3 clone, the HDC Galaxy i9300 S3 plus. Its a MT6577 Android ICS phone that sells for just $210.

Same as what we had previously done with the Lenovo A789, we do not have a unit in the house so well just look on its specs based on published information online. Well then, let’s proceed.

First of all, obviously you can see that this knock-off absolutely looks really close to a genuine Samsung Galaxy S3! It has the same dimensions and overall design was made to be a complete dupe of the Galaxy S3. Only the Samsung logo is not present, and little details are slightly changed. But at first glance, it could be mistaken as a real S3.

The design is okay, what about the specs?

We cannot expect a complete imitation of the S3’s same specs at a price of almost just one-thirds of the real Galaxy S3 price. So what we could get out of our 210 bucks? Here you go:

HDC Galaxy I9300 S3+

This HDC Galaxy i9300 S3+ sports a MT6577 Dual Core 1.0GHz, (some sources say 1.2GHz) beefing it up with a PowerVRTM SGX Series5 3D GPU. As compared to the predecessor of MT6577, which is the MT6575; it was said that it is 43% faster. Thinking about that, the ZOPO ZP100 I have which has the MT6575 chip is already fast for me, then what more for this.

Running Antutu Benchmark test on this HDC Galaxy i9300 S3 plus, yielded a score of more than 5000. Impressive, isn’t it? Image proof here.

It runs on Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) and has support for following languages: English, Italian, French. Spanish, Russian, Thai, Vietnamese, Arabic, German, Indonesian, Chinese, Turkish, Portuguese, Malay, others.

The HDC S3+ is packed with a 1GB RAM and 4GB ROM. With that said, I am guessing that there is just a 2.xGB usable internal memory available. Micro SD Memory Card (TF-Card) support is 32GB at max.

Outshining other 4.3″ Android phones, this HDC S3 plus has a 4.7 inch LCD just likely near the real Galaxy S3. Capacitive Multi-touch Screen support is up to 5 points touch. However, this has a lower resolution than the qHD screen of the ZOPO ZP100, it only has a WVGA resolution at 800 x 480 pixels (16million colors).

Every China phones’ edge compared on other phones is its Dual SIM capability. This S3+ is dual SIM supporting 2G/GSM and 3G/WCDMA (850-2100 MHz, supports GSM service all over the world).

The HDC S3+ sports a Dual Camera with an 8.0 megapixel snapper at the rear and VGA front-facing camera of 0.3 megapixel. No doubt that the Skype video call will work on this phone with MT6577 chip. Recording of 720p HD video is also supported.

With its average capacity Li-on battery at 1600mAh; we could not expect a day or two on excessive usage before the charged power ran out. Reported standby time is however at 120-150 hours. FastCardTech ships with 2 pieces of battery, which looks pretty nifty.

Available colors are black and white. It also has built-in GPS and AGPS capability. Bluetooth 2.0Wi-Fi IEEE 802.11 b/g/a and micro USB 2.0 are other connectivity options that this phone supports.

Its pretty much obvious that having this phone is a goodchoice already. Why? Simply because of the specs and design carrying the flagship of Samsung, if you want to just do a public show-off saying: “Kids, I got an S3”. What makes it more awesome is its specs, which is able to play all the games you want. The 1GB RAM is pretty much a lot for anyone. I have a MT6575 phone and its enough for me. It can play any games I want to play with no problem, and this one, it has higher specs; that’s why I could easily say that.

What I like about the HDC Galaxy S3 plus:

  • not cheap-looking design and a near 1:1 dupe of the real Galaxy S3
  • high-end specs, capable of HD gaming and media playback. It also has a good camera.
  • really low price at $210 only

What I hate:

  • the battery capacity, its just seems so low for me. It could be gone better if it was packed at 2000mAh instead of packing it up with 2x 1600mAh batteries. But that might yield a higher price.
  • WVGA screen will not look perfectly decent for a 4.7″ screen. A bump up for its price might be an upgrade to a qHD screen just to have a better screen viewing.

The HDC Galaxy S3+ is not just your ordinary S3 knock-off clones. The one from FastCardTech might be different from other stores because there is a lot of Samsung Galaxy S3 clones out there, actually. But this HDC Galaxy S3+ really outshined the others as of this writing time.

This phone retails for just $209.99, converting that to peso results a Php8,600+ price tag. If I dont have my ZOPO ZP100 now, I am surely considering this one.

Sadly, I do not know any distributor that sells this HDC Galaxy S3 locally here on the Philippines. However, you can acquire the units from FastCardTech. I suggest getting the HDC Galaxy S3 from them so you can be sure of the specs I posted above. From FCT, its the cheapest buy I could ever find. Note that this one is just a new arrival on their stocks.

I am positive that we could possibly have a unit on hand so that we can make our own in-depth review of this HDC Galaxy S3. So stay tuned.
