This All-in-One PC from KATA is a new product on the loose in the personal computing scene. The MAYA PC has a design of a CPU and monitor in one. There is no more CPU unit for it. The monitor serves as the main pc body, and all the hardware are already built into it.
This seems to be like an iMAC pc. Though the design isn’t as slim as the MAC, it still has a very fine and sleek finish. The MAYA PC also was said to be rechargeable. I forgot to ask how long its battery can last. Other peripherals of the MAYA pc, such as the mouse and keyboard are wireless as well.
Here’s my post about it, originally posted from TecHideki.com v1:
KATA: MAYA All-in-one PC
A store in Robinsons Place on Cainta Junction had caught my attention, namely the OWTEL SHOP. They have been selling mobile phones and other gadgets with almost Php3,000-Php5000 discount on original prices. But the thing that let me decide to walk by inside their store was the display of this so called MAYA All-in-One PC by KATA.
KATA, that name was so foreign for me. I had never heard about it before. The brand isn’t popular, or it may just be me. The first thing that came into my mind when I saw the MAYA was, “wow! parang MAC pc lang!” (in english: wow! Its just like a MAC pc).
The MAYA was a pc. I thought it was a huge tablet, and the screen is touchscreen but it wasn’t. Its a PC that is a CPU and monitor in one. No more CPU, and the other accessories are wireless as well.
Since I only got a limited time, I just tried to capture some few shots of the KATA MAYA pc:
There are 4 demo units of MAYA pc in the OWTEL store. Internet surfing is also free. Particularly no games are installed yet. The PC uses geniune Windows 7 Ultimate operating system.
The MAYA sports a 21.5 inches monitor screen. The speakers are located in the lower part of the MAYA, below the Kata logo.
To pair up with the MAYA, wireless keyboard and mouse from KATA seems perfect to completing the set. It is indeed that today in our technology era, people wants everything to be wireless.
From this side, you can see the optical DVD drive.
Honestly, I had thought that this was a touchscreen PC. It really looks like a tablet.
The KATA logo (text and fish) can be seen on the back of the pc. I also had noticed that there are a lot of boxes of KATA MAYA PC piled in the side of the store. They surely had a lot in stock.
PC and spec-wise, I haven’t tested it yet as per there isn’t any games installed to the pc. I am not sure, but maybe if the cpu is AMD, games might be present for the demos. So for the pc smarts, here are the specs, taken from catalog in the OWTEL iStore. Judge it for yourselves:
- Processor: Intel Atom D525, 1.8GHz, 1MB L2
- Chip set: Intel NM10
- Memory: 2GB
- Display: 21.5″ Full HD supported (1920 x 1080)
- Graphic card: GMA3150
- HDD: 320GB
- Optical drive: Tray-in super multi DVD writer
- Operating System: Genuine Microsoft Windows 7 Home premium
- Audio: Stereo speaker
- Network: Gigabit LAN, IEEE 802.11b/g/n (Wi-Fi)
- Other device: Webcam, microphone
- Card reader: 4in1 (SD, MS, MMC, MS Pro)
The store have been selling this for Php24,190 as what the printed tag says. However, looking at the online catalog by OWTEL Store (http://www.owtelistore.com), they sells it for $518.99 converting to peso, this seems less. But maybe, walk-ins in-store can get you more freebies, you should ask too.
I wonder if this All-in-one PC will be a great hit on the local market. Considering the price seems to be a thirds of what MAC pc’s are, but that is Apple. Based on what I see on KATA mobile fanpage in facebook, KATA seems to be an electronics and mobile company from Hong Kong. KATA also has other products: minibook (netbook), a minitablet (seems close to a Samsung Galaxy Note) and a mobile phone.Search terms: kata tablet review, KATA TABLET, kata computer, smart free internet 2012, opera mini modded for smart 2012, kata maya all in one pc, kata maya computer, kata computers, kata computer review, modded opera mini for smart 2012
